SCRC213 Mileage Program Rules

To qualify as a Chapter Ride, certain protocols have to be met. There must be at least two motorcycles ridden by CGA 213 members involved in the ride. Exception: If a ride sponsored by another Riding Club, that does NOT coincide, interfere or overlap, with a planned CGA 213 Sponsored event (Monthly meeting, 4th of July Freedom Ride, Chapter Picnic, Halloween Spooktacular, Etc…) is approved for posting on our Forum, and only one CGA 213 member participates in the ride, that member will receive credit in the Mileage Program for the mileage accrued on the ride. The member should note the mileage and post a Ride Report in the Ride Reports folder on the Forum.

Any member can post a ride, but keep in mind that if you are thinking of posting a ride, the ride must be of a nature that will encourage others to join the ride. Common sense should govern here. An extreme example would be if two guys decide to trailer their bikes to Seattle, WA, and ride the Alaskan Highway, they should go for it! But this would not be something that even a small percentage of our members would be willing, or able to do. A good rule of thumb would be that if you aren’t sure if a ride would be eligible to be considered a Chapter Ride, you should first contact the First Officer and/or the Senior Road Captain for advice.

The post in the Chapter Rides and Events Folder should give the basic details of the proposed ride, i.e., the destination, route, and who will be leading the ride. We assume that no one would post a Chapter Ride unless they felt qualified to lead the ride, or to choose someone who is qualified. If you choose to lead the ride you post, you should familiarize yourself with established “group ride rules”. You are in fact assuming the position of Road Captain, and as such you are expected to adhere to the same standards as a certified Road Captain. Common sense dictates that rides of lengthy duration and/or distance involving several riders should be handled by certified Road Captains and Tailgunners. The Senior Road Captain and his team stand ready to offer assistance in the planning and execution of rides. Contact information for the Officers and Road Captains is located in the “Contact Information” folder on the Forum.

If you plan to participate in a Chapter Ride, whenever possible you should “Reply” to the post for that ride, stating that you plan to attend. Before you leave for the meeting place, you should have checked your tire pressure, and made any needed repairs or adjustments to your bike. If you are going to need fuel, there is always at least 15 minutes between the planned meeting time and the “Kick Stands Up” (“KSU”) times. This time is included in order for you to have time to “top off your tank”, and make any last minute preparations. It is very important that you BE ON TIME!

The Ride Leader will post the names of the riders and the mileage accrued for the ride in the Ride Reports folder on the Forum. If you note any discrepancies, you should send an email message to the author of the Ride Report, or communicate directly with me at: RWCarden@gmail.com for resolution of the discrepancy.

Mileage Program

All members taking part in Chapter Rides are shown on the Mileage Program report, which is updated after each ride, and sent to the Webmaster, Tom “BamBam” Sherrill for uploading to the CGA 213 website. Due to various factors, there may be times when we experience some time lapse between a ride (or rides) and the posting to the website.  The date of the latest update to the website is shown at the top of the report, usually coinciding with the date of the last ride shown. If you feel that an error of omission or commission has been made, please contact me at RWCarden@gmail.com.

If you like, (and you are encouraged to do so) you may purchase a Mileage Program patch for your vest or jacket. The patches are available for $5.00 each. “Mileage Rockers” are purchased from Chapter funds, and awarded with the accrual of 1,000, 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, and 30,000 miles (higher numbers will be added as needed). Mileage is accrued only by participation in Chapter Rides.

Mileage Computation FAQ’s:

Q: How is the mileage computed?

A: The mileage for a ride is computed from the posted starting point and return to that point. The Ride Leaders odometer (or GPS) mileage governs, and is rounded up to the next “0” or “5”. (Examples: 93 miles = 95 miles / 96 miles = 100 miles).

Q: What if I want to join the group at an intermediate point?

A: Anyone electing to meet the group at an intermediate point will receive credit for the total mileage accrued for the ride.

Q: What if I start the ride, but have an emergency and have to leave the group?

A: Anyone who participates in any part of the ride will be credited with the total mileage for the ride.

Q: What if I meet the group at the lunch location, and go my own way after lunch?

A: This would not qualify as participating in the ride.

Q: What if I ride part way with the group, and then join another group at an intermediate location, after which I accrue more miles than the original group?

A: You would be credited with only the mileage accrued by the original group.
